Dear Ant & Claire,
I have just changed my kitchen to a dining
/ kitchen and am unsure of the best way
to light the two areas – I would like
something funky and decorative!
Lorraine – Glasgow
Hi Lorraine
Lighting a dining kitchen can prove tricky
as you need a good level of task light in
the working area and a more ambient solution
in the dining area.
Picture 1
It is best to switch these two areas separately.
See picture 1 - For good general light in
the working area without any shadows a good
solution is always recessed spots and if
you don’t have space to recess you
could always install a canopy over the area
to recess into. There are many great possibilities
for above a dining table, this rise and
fall “Le Cube” is just one of
a number of similar styles on our site.
Picture 2
Another solution would be a matching semi
flush fitting and pendant to hang over the
table such as the “Sabre” range,
picture 2 this gives the whole space a uniform
look and there is still good light in the
working area as this range uses bright G9
bulbs and for extra task light install under
shelf lighting.
Happy cooking in your lovely new kitchen!
Dear Ant & Claire,
I have a lovely crystal chandelier
in my bathroom, over the bath actually –
I have very high ceilings! However I have
noticed its losing some of its sparkle any
ideas how to clean it without having to
take every crystal off and clean them!
Tony – Glasgow
Dear Tony
HOW decadently delicious – a chandelier
over the bath! Well done, a lot of people
are SO unadventurous when it comes to lighting
up the bathroom.
lthough there are of course bathroom electrical
safety regulations to adhere to when lighting
the bathroom (see
our bathroom hints and tips section) its worth remembering that there are no
restrictions in zone 3, so be adventurous!
Anyway, to get the sparkle back into your
chandelier the easy way, use our chandelier
cleaner spray £7 (email us and ask for chandelier cleaner)..
Simply, lay something absorbent underneath
and spray 10-12 inches from the fixture
and hey presto, your chandelier will be
as clean as you after bath time!
