flos guns by Philippe Starkeguns by Philippe Starck

Cotterell Light Centres will be presenting Philippe Starck’s controversial “Gun” range.

Media pictures of Saddam Hussein’s gold-plated gun, recovered when America and its allies attacked Iraq, inspired this range of lighting designed in 2005. The guns are coated in 18k gold leaf to allude to the military-industrial complex while their black lampshades signify death. Small crosses line the inner portion of the shades. Starck chose different guns to represent different nations. Beretta symbolising the responsibility of Western Europe; the Kalashnikov represents the suffering caused by the former USSR; and the M16 the havoc created by the United States.

flos donates 20% of the proceeds of the gun collection to the freres des hommes Europe association - a NGO for international cooperation promoting economical and social programmes to the most disadvantaged people in the southern part of the world
